City Circle Acting Company of Coralville founding member Tim Barnes loved the theater. He loved every aspect of it and found great joy in participating at every level. From directing some of our earliest shows (Nunsense, Marvin’s Room) to acting in others (The Boys Next Door, The Full Monty, Cabaret) to singing in benefits and concerts (Circle Full of Stars) to pulling the curtain up and down (Gypsy), Tim brought his wit, compassion, intelligence, and creativity to every job. Everyone that worked with Tim loved him—his easy-going nature, his crack comic timing, his beautiful voice, his one-of-a-kind smile.
Tim passed away on July 9, 2014, surrounded by memories of his time in Iowa Theater and in the company of his loving, devoted husband, Rick Armstrong. He will be missed by those who had the honor to know him personally and by our theater community where his legacy continues.
Tim’s husband and family have asked City Circle and the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts to create a way to honor his memory and further his wish that City Circle would have a permanent theatrical home.
Funds raised by the Timothy J. Barnes Memorial Fund will do just that.
We can think of no more fitting tribute to this man and theatrical artist than to forever be able to say in Coralville that “the show will go on!”
