A “Don’t Miss It”

Last night we saw the Coralville Comm Theatre’s production of “West Side Story” at the Englert.  It was OUTSTANDING–and we strongly recommend it to you if you can get to one of the two remaining shows–Sat. at 7:30 and Sunday at 2:00.  The cast is almost totally high schoolers–cream of the crop from our area schools–and the energy, the voices, the dancing, the directing, costumes and staging, and the  orchestra were not short of amazing.  We sat in the front of the balcony, which we thought gave us a particularly fine sense of the dance ensembles.  Seats are general admission, so early arrival would be smart–there was a big line buying tickets.  Enjoy!

Ed’s Letter to the Ladies

ICCT will be producing a benefit concert performance of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music” on August 12 and 13 at the Englert Theater on August 12 and 13.  Josh Sazon will direct and I am the music director/conductor.  The show will be done with a 36-piece orchestra on stage, in back of the action.  There will be no costumes, a minimum of action, and no dancing required.  All we ask is that your dialog and music be memorized.  We are particularly looking for women to sing in the four-part nuns chorus.

The nuns chorus plays a significant role in this show and sings some supremely beautiful music.  I would love to put a 60-voice chorus of nuns on that stage and do that music real justice.  Yes, 60 women’s voices!  Think of how beautiful that would be.  I think we can do it!

If you have sung will me in a show before I know your voice and you need not audition; simply send me an email at <> saying you’d like to be in the show.  If you haven’t sung with me before we welcome your participation and will ask you to audition.  Auditions will be held July 22 6-9 and July 23 2-5. Callbacks Will be July 24 2-5. We start rehearsals on Monday, July 25.

Also, the roles of Maria and Liesl are open, and if you are interested please plan to audition at that time.  Men’s roles are open as well, but right now I’m interested in you ladies.

Please help me fill the Englert Theater with the sound of beautiful music.
