All in a Day Play Festival

All in a DayCity Circle Acting Company and Dreamwell Theatre to host All in a Day Play Festival on September 21 City Circle Acting Company of Coralville and Dreamwell Theatre will host the 6th Annual All in a Day Play Festival on September 21 at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts. The two theatre companies will once again join forces for this award-winning event to create seven, ten minute plays in just 24 hours.

On the night of Friday, September 20, seven writers, seven directors, and 35 actors will come together to create seven original plays. Writers are randomly assigned a location, a genre, and one other dramatic detail to include in their scripts. Writers, actors, and directors brainstorm ideas and then the writers scurry away to create a ten minute play by 8:00 am Saturday morning. At that time, the actors and directors take over.

Twenty-four hours from the start of the festival, after a whirlwind of creative mayhem, theatre lovers are treated to a variety of unique shows at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts. Plays and performances are adjudicated and awards will be presented for performances, plays, and directors.

This has become a very popular event, for participants and audience members alike. In its sixth year, it’s sure to be as exciting and dynamic as ever!

The plays will be performed on Saturday, September 21 at 7:30 pm at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts. Proving that a great show is always in fashion, Love, Loss, and What I Wore has become an international hit. With its compulsively entertaining subject matter, this intimate collection of stories celebrated an accomplished two-and-a-half year run in New York’s Westside Theatre. Based on the best seller by Ilene Beckerman as well as the recollections of the Ephron’s friends, the show uses clothing and accessories and the memories they trigger to tell funny and often poignant stories that all women can relate to–mother, prom dresses, mothers, buying bras, mothers, hating purses, and why we only wear black. “So funny and so powerful; so dear and sweet; so remindful of our female wiles, our worries, our insecurities, our remembrances of mother, father, sisters, brothers, lovers” WowOwow.com.

Written by Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron

Based on the book by Ilene Beckerman

City Circle Acting Company Presents RENT

City Circle Acting Company will present the musical sensation RENT on August 2-4 at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts.

Cast members from City Circle’s 2009 sold-out teen production of RENT reunite to reprise their roles in this highly acclaimed Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning rock musical with music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson based on Puccini’s opera La Boheme.

“We are so excited to revisit this awesome cast after four years and see how they’ve changed, grown and experienced life.  They are now the actual ages of the characters they so memorably portrayed, and so we will get a chance to see and hear this play in a way simultaneously fresh and nostalgic.  Seasons of Love indeed!” says City Circle Community Rep Chris Okiishi.

RENT is an inspiring story about friends and artists struggling in New York City’s East Village. Its musical score shifts easily between pounding rock numbers and pop-style ballads, while tackling addiction, poverty, AIDS, and most of all, love.

RENT will be performed August 2 and 3 at 7:30pm and August 4 at 2pm at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts.

Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.coralvillearts.org/ or by calling 319.248.9370 or in person at the CCPA box office at 1301 5th Street and at the Coralville Recreation Center at 1506 8th Street.

Shrek The Musical

Shrek The Musical, based on the Oscar-winning  2001 DreamWorks film  that started it all, brings the hilarious story of everyone’s favorite ogre to life on stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre- not a handsome prince- shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won’t shut up, a villain with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand…and his name is Shrek.

The Broadway production of the show received a total of twelve Drama Desk Awards and eight Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical.  Shrek The Musical is part romance, part twisted fairy tale and all irreverent fun for the whole family!
