City Circle Acting Company is proud and excited to announce our 20th anniversary season. In addition to our biannual New Play Festival, our 2017-18 season will include Peter and the Starcatcher, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Chess (concert version), Little Women, and Return to the Forbidden Planet (teen show).
New Play Festival September 16, 2017
City Circle Acting Company of Coralville has had a strong commitment to supporting new work from playwrights with an eastern Iowa connection. Our New Play Festival celebrates up-and-coming playwrights as well as more established authors trying their hand at something new. Several of the works featured in previous years have had continued life including Joe Jennison’s “A Beautiful Man” and Susan Short Gilbert’s “Catchin’ the Babies”. Authors at any level of experience are welcome to submit plays, 10 minutes and shorter. We have no idea what we’re going to see–but history tells us our audience is in for an exciting night!

Chess in Concert February 9-11, 2018
With music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, formerly of ABBA, and with lyrics by Tim Rice, Chess involves a politically driven, Cold War-era chess tournament between two men—an American grandmaster and a Soviet grandmaster—and their fight over a woman who manages one and falls in love with the other.
Little Women April 27-29 and May 4-6, 2018
Produced nationally and internationally, Little Women has been praised by critics for its ambition in adapting such a well-known story for the stage. This timeless, captivating story is brought to life in this glorious musical filled with personal discovery, heartache, hope and everlasting love. Based on Louisa May Alcott’s life, Little Women follows the adventures of sisters, Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March and their experience growing up in Civil War America. The powerful score by Jason Howland soars with the sounds of personal discovery, heartache and hope – the sounds of a young America finding its voice.
Return To The Forbidden Planet June 15-17, 2018
City Circle’s annual teen show is a Jukebox musical by playwright Bob Carlton based on Shakespeare’s The Tempest and the 1956 science fiction film “Forbidden Planet”. It has been billed as Shakespeare’s forgotten rock and roll masterpiece. The score includes pop hits from the 50’s and 60’s.
